The Signal

Compensation Advisory Partners studied 19 major industrial and manufacturing separations that produced 29 companies. For spinoff CFOs with comparable disclosures, median target total compensation rose about 66%, versus 57% for CEOs. Fortune's CFO Daily reported the study on October 26, 2026.

The telling number: salary moved 11%, while long term incentive opportunity rose 102%. Boards are not paying for a bigger title. They are paying for someone who now owns investor relations, capital allocation and a standalone balance sheet.

Most of the new companies (83%) also granted one time launch awards, with a median near $1 million for CFOs. About three quarters of these CEOs and CFOs had pay established before separation or through a staged process.

Two Rules For CHROs And Total Rewards Leaders
