What The Number Leaves Out
This is a cash benchmark. It does not include equity, long term incentive plans, sign on awards or retention grants, and at this revenue scale those can rival or exceed the cash itself. Treat $451,784 as the floor of an offer model, not the offer.
The second blind spot is scope. Two CHROs at the same revenue level can hold very different mandates: one leads a global function through an acquisition, another steadies a mature domestic operation. Price the mandate, then check it against the market.
How We Use Benchmarks In A Search
We set the compensation conversation before the search opens, not after the finalist asks. A hiring committee that agrees on the pay architecture early moves faster at the offer stage and rarely loses its first choice to a counteroffer.
